Here at Worcester Guitar Centre, our passion and knowledge of Guitars is something we take great pride in. Guitars have revolutionised the sound of music over the past 60 years, and we're sure they will continue to help musicians innovate and create for many years to come. Iconic guitars such as the Fender Telecaster and Stratocaster, and the Gibson Les Paul, have adorned the stage for countless legendary guitarists like Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, and Jimmy Page.
Vintage and Limited Edition guitars continue to go up in value, especially limited production models that carry a unique and rich history. Collectors have been known to pay hundreds of thousands of pounds for a single guitar, so these are a great family investment for future generations. However, we've got a real passion to help young musicians pick up a guitar and play for the first time, or if you're upgrading your arsenal of tone machines. Guitars and Musical Instruments are a great tool for people to express themselves creatively, and make for an ideal gift at Christmas or Birthdays!
As Worcester's premier stockist of Electric, Acoustic and Bass guitars, we've got all shapes and sizes covered. Pop into our boutique store to try a few out to find the right Guitar for you, or order online with Next Day Delivery!
Whilst its fair to say Electric Guitars have completely re-shaped the sound of modern music, they have helped define the iconic sounds of Rock & Roll, Metal, Punk but to name just a select few genres. The most common Electric Guitar comes in the form of the 6-String design, with 7, 8 and 12-string guitars also available for more inventive playing styles. Originally introduced in the early 1930s, the Electric Guitar has undergone subtle and radical design changes to improve the playability, tonality and affordability over the years. Electric Guitars are the perfect choice for the more edgy, loud and raw tones found on music around the world today.
We're proud to be a key stockist of major brands like PRS, Ibanez, Revelation, G&L, Airline and Rickenbacker plus many more. We've got everything from your everyday jamming guitars to enjoy at home, to prestige high performance guitars to rock the big stage.
The Ibanez Jumpstart packages are a great way for a beginner to learn to play guitar, and include everything you need to pick up and play. As well as a sweet-sounding Electric in the box, you get an Amplifier, Accessories and Headphones to get started!
Often built using hand-selected tonewoods, Acoustic Guitars immediately exude a certain level of sophistication not felt on other instruments. While most Acoustic Guitars can be played anywhere, without the need for an amplifier or pickup, we also sell a wide range of Electro Acoustic Guitars that have a built-in electronic system to connect to an amp. We stock big name brands like Faith, Ibanez, Alvarez and James Neligan, each with their own character and tonal palette. Whether you're in the market for a small, comfortable Parlour or Concert, or the full-bodied tone of a traditional Dreadnought shape, our selection won't disappoint. We also stock Staggs' affordable line of Acoustic guitars that serve as a great backup or as a beginner's best friend.
Since the 1960s, Electric Bass Guitars have phased out the traditional double basses previously employed on big swing and Jazz records of the mid 20th Century. Basses can be played with a variety of techniques, with some bassists prefering to pluck or slap with fingers, but can also be strung using a pick or plectrum like a regular guitar. Our range of 4 and 5-string basses from brands like Ibanez and Revelation are the ultimate way to get the low-end groove going!
WGC are proud to now be one of the only UK stockists of Rickenbacker basses! The rich heritage of Rickenbacker was cemented as one of the first companies to produce Electric Guitars back in the 1930s from California, USA. The Beatles have helped make the Rickenbacker sound one of the most sought-after instruments in the Bass Guitar world, and are in extremely limited numbers around the world.
Ukuleles, Banjos & Mandolins
The banjo is frequently associated with country, folk, Irish traditional and Bluegrass music. Historically, the banjo occupied a central place in African American Traditional music, before becoming popular in the Minstrel Shows of the 1950s. The banjo, with the fiddle, is a mainstay of American old-time music and Jazz too. The funky 'twang' of a Banjo can be a great way to add a new dimension to your next track, with a range of 4 and 5-string options available at WGC.
The laid-back sound of a Ukulele is commonly associated with Hawaiian and Spanish styles of music, but can be adopted to almost any acoustic setting. Various body sizes are available, commonly in Soprano, Concert, Tenor, and Baritone. Check out our range of affordable Stagg ukuleles, great for economical way to learn to play. We also stock some of the Ibanez ukes - built with the same attention to detail and premium tonewoods often found on more expensive Acoustic guitars!
The magnetic pickups on an Electric Guitar are the driving force behind the sound, volume and tonality of the instrument. By using small transducers underneath the strings, a Pickup is able to detect the intricate vibrations when you pluck a string. This signal is then carried through to the output jack and can be run through an Amplifier, Effects pedal or mixing desk. Acoustic guitars, upright basses and fiddles may use a piezoelectric pickup.
We're proud to be an official stockist of Lace Pickups, with one of the largest selections available to order in the UK. Both Single-Coil and Humbucking pickups are available in the Electric range, whilst they also stock pickups for Acoustic Guitar and more Boutique models. Lace 'Sensors' are extremely popular for their superb sound quality, and have been used on Fender guitars as standard for over 20 years. They also do a range of Signature pickups if there is a specific artist you'd like to emulate, including Matt Pike, Bill Kelliher, Brent Hinds and Scott Wino. Amazing tone from legendary guitarists!
If you feel your guitar isn't giving enough juice for your liking, it may be time to upgrade your Pickups. Whether you've got a Gibson Les Paul or a Fender Stratocaster, we're sure to have something to revamp the tone of your axe. Most pickups can be installed or replaced at home with a simple tool set. However, we can assist you on your quest for the ultimate tone or recommend a local luthier!
Although not as commonly used in modern music today, Lapsteel guitars (also known as the 'Hawaiian' guitar) have been used in Country and Bluegrass music since the 1930s. Famous players include David Gilmour, Jeff Beck and Joe Perry plus many more who have used this style of guitar on stage. Lapsteel models come in the form of Lap Slide and Resonator models that can be standalone acoustic or have electronic pickup systems built in. Due to the neck and string setups of these guitars, fretting is made impossible, so are typically played with a steel slide, which we also stock!
We have a range of Airline and Revelation lapsteel guitars that capture authentic that authentic Western Blues and Country sound.
